Who We Are

About PTCF

Our Origin

Passing the Crown was born from a lifelong love of two art forms, orchestral music and Hip-Hop, and a founder's conviction that the women who helped build and shape Hip-Hop deserved to be celebrated at the scale their legacy demands. For Juliette Jones, it started with a feeling. Hearing MC Lyte's "Cold Rock a Party" for the first time. The unapologetic energy of Lil' Kim. The revelatory depth of Ms. Lauryn Hill. These weren't just songs, they were an awakening. And growing up surrounded by women who innovated and created in ways that often went uncelebrated, Juliette began to imagine what it would look like to honor that lineage on stage, through orchestration, dance, DJ culture, and fashion. That vision became a commission-turned-world premiere at Lincoln Center's Summer for the City festival in July 2024, centering an all-female and gender-expansive collective of musicians and dancers in what collaborator DJ Raydar Ellis coined "a live orchestral mixtape." The energy was palpable, the joy infectious, and it became clear that night that Passing the Crown was more than a concert. It was a living dialogue between generations of women in the arts. Since that premiere, the production has grown to major stages including Levitt Pavilion Denver with GRAMMY award-winning artist Rapsody, and Lincoln Center's David Geffen Hall with Hip-Hop legend and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee MC Lyte.
